What to Expect When you Visit

Home » Welcome » What to Expect

Thinking of visiting Harvest Bible Chapel DeKalb? If so here is some information you might find helpful.

For Starters:  We're real people who've experienced the lasting change that Jesus brings. We're works in progress and we don't have it all together, so we don't expect that from you.  The majority of messages are spoken by Senior Pastor Jason Draper.

Service Details: We meet every Sunday at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. with services lasting about 80 minutes long. It is recommended to arrive at least 10 minutes before the service start time so that you can park and get into the service. If you have children you will want to come at least 15 minutes early to allow for check-in of your children.  Find our address and a Google Map of Harvest on our Location page.

What is a Service Like: Generally speaking, our service begins with worship. Most people stand during this time, however, there is complete freedom to be seated if you prefer. The words of all of the songs are projected onto a screen at the front of the sanctuary. Our hope is that you'll hear songs you know or can relate to, even if you haven't been to church in years.

Like most churches we receive an offering in our service. If you are a guest, please do not feel obligated to participate in the offering. This is intended for our regular attendees who consider Harvest their church home.

As our guest, we only ask that you take a few moments to complete our the Register which is found at the end of each row. The Register is used to help us get to know you a bit. It is a place where you can request information, ask for prayer, let us know your thoughts, or just indicate your presence with us. In any case, we use it to pray for you during the week. You won’t be asked to stand or raise your hand (or anything else embarrassing) just because you’re new. Nor will you have to recite anything or kneel at certain times during the service.

Harvest provides practical Bible messages that help you deal with real life issues. We'll even give you a handy outline with the main points and Bible verses in the bulletin. What you learn on the weekend, you'll be able to use during the week.

    What Should I Wear:
We could be described as casual and flexible. Some come dressed in business casual, while some come in jeans, shorts or casual skirts. While it is great to dress up to show our respect for someone (a great reason to dress up for church) our focus is on God’s concern for our heart in worship.

What Should I Expect:  From the time that you pull into our parking area, you’ll find friendly people to make your first visit one that helps encourage you to return. When you enter the doors our greeters will guide you and answer any questions that you have. If you have children from birth through fifth grade, we invite you to check them in at our children’s registration area.

As you enter the auditorium, our greeters and ushers will welcome you, provide a bulletin for you, and answer any questions you might have about our service. We invite you to engage in Christ-centered worship and an application-filled study of God’s Word with us. If you have any questions after the service, our senior leaders will be at the front of the auditorium and they would love to meet you, answer your questions, provide you with resources, and pray with or for you.

We also invite you to stop by our Guest Center at the front entrance where we have an information packet for you and would be pleased to personally answer your questions about the Gospel and ministries of our church.

What About my Children: The first time that you bring your children from birth through fifth grade to Harvest, please check in the Higher Ground registration counter to find out what class they will be a part of and whether they join their class for the entire service or spend the first part with you. As you enter, Higher Ground is located down the stairs to the right, then take another right down the hallway.

Our ministry is always a big hit with the children and we have a number of security measures in place so that you can rest and enjoy your service distraction free. If your child needs you during the service we have a pager system to notify you or your family number will be displayed in the service so you can slip out and see them.

What do you Offer for Junior High and High School Students: Our Student Ministry for students in sixth through twelfth grade meets Sunday evenings for worship, Bible study and small group time.

They also participate in their own social events each month. On Sunday these young adults worship with us and we also encourage them to plug into the various ministry teams to use their spiritual gifts in serving the Body of Christ.

Whether you're looking for a church home or simply visiting the area, we invite you to join us anytime!
